Complete Guide to Air Conditioner Repairs and Servicing in Nairobi

Complete Guide to Air Conditioner Repairs and Servicing in Nairobi

Customized for BSM Air Conditioners Kenya | Featuring Midea, GREE, Bosch, and MDV ACs

As Nairobi continues to experience rapid urban growth and rising temperatures, air conditioners have become essential for homes, offices, and commercial spaces. However, just like any other appliance, air conditioners require regular servicing and occasional repairs to maintain their performance, longevity, and energy efficiency.

This complete guide, brought to you by BSM Air Conditioners Kenya, provides expert insight into air conditioner repairs and servicing in Nairobi, with a focus on four globally trusted brands: Midea, GREE, Bosch, and MDV. Whether you’re facing issues with cooling, noise, leakage, or electrical faults, this article outlines everything you need to know about maintaining your AC unit in top condition.

🧊 Why Regular Air Conditioner Servicing Matters

In Nairobi, environmental factors such as dust, inconsistent power supply, and heavy usage especially during hot seasons, can severely impact AC performance. Without regular servicing, your unit may:

  • Consume more electricity

  • Deliver reduced cooling efficiency

  • Emit unpleasant odors

  • Break down frequently

  • Fail prematurely, voiding your warranty

At BSM Air Conditioners Kenya, we recommend servicing your air conditioner every 3–6 months depending on usage and environmental exposure.

How to Choose the Right BTU AC for Every Room Size in Kenya

How to Choose the Right BTU AC for Every Room Size in Kenya – BSM Air Conditioners Guide

When shopping for an air conditioner in Kenya, one of the most important decisions you’ll make is selecting the correct BTU rating for your space. BTU, or British Thermal Unit, measures how much cooling capacity an air conditioner has. If you pick an AC that’s too small, it won’t cool the room effectively. Too large, and it will waste energy, increase your electricity bill, and may lead to uncomfortable humidity levels.

At BSM Air Conditioners Kenya, we specialize in helping clients find the perfect AC unit based on room size, usage, and budget. We stock only genuine and efficient models from trusted global brands such as Midea, Bosch, and Gree—all tailored for the Kenyan climate.

✅ Why BTU Matters in Choosing an Air Conditioner

BTU determines how powerful your air conditioner is. The higher the BTU, the larger the space it can cool effectively. However, selecting a higher BTU than needed isn’t always better—it can lead to short cycling (frequent on/off operation), increased wear, and higher electricity consumption.

By matching your room size (in square meters) to the right BTU rating, you ensure optimal cooling, energy savings, and extended equipment life.

📏 Room Size vs. BTU Chart – What You Need to Know

Here’s a basic guide to help you match Kenyan room sizes to appropriate AC capacities:

Room Size (sqm) Recommended BTU Suggested Areas
9 – 15 sqm 9,000 BTU Bedrooms, small offices
15 – 25 sqm 12,000 BTU Standard bedrooms, home offices
25 – 35 sqm 18,000 BTU Living rooms, medium offices
35 – 45 sqm 24,000 BTU Large sitting rooms, retail shops
45 – 60 sqm 30,000 BTU Open-plan spaces, conference rooms
60+ sqm 36,000 BTU+ Commercial halls, restaurants

Tip: For rooms exposed to direct sunlight or with multiple appliances/occupants, consider going one level higher in BTU.

💼 Other Factors to Consider When Choosing BTU in Kenya

  1. Ceiling Height
Higher ceilings increase the cooling volume. Adjust BTU upward if ceiling height exceeds 2.8m.

  2. Insulation & Windows
Poorly insulated rooms or those with large windows may require more BTUs.

  3. Appliances and People
Rooms with computers, kitchen equipment, or multiple occupants need extra cooling power.

  4. Sunlight Exposure
West-facing rooms or those with large glass panes may require higher BTU units.
